What is the rally?
The members only rally is more of a social gathering to get to meet and greet and to get to know other members especially new members of the site. It is organised and run very similar to the standard bike rallies with some minor and some major differences. So really its completely different? The only way we can explain it is to join the site and come to the next rally.

Who runs the rally?

The Southern Rider (members only) rally is owned and run by members of Southern Rider.

Do you need to be a member of Southern Rider to do the rally?
Yes. The members only rally is just that for members of Southern Rider and partners only. This will not change. It is a way for members to meet new people, and then get to know them offline, puting faces to names and to grow that community we are trying to achieve. If you are not a member you will be turned away.

Also please remember even if you are a member of Southern Rider that (R.O.A.R) Right of Admission Reseved or Right of Admission Refusal. Which means we have the right to turn any one away. Also again the members only rally is prepay only, and no gate entrants will be accepted on the day no if no buts.

I am not a member of Southern Rider how can I go to the rally?
Well that is pretty simple really, join the site and partake with Southern Rider in the forums, and other events, and come a long. Southern Rider is free to join, and has no monthly subscriptions or annual subs, no annoying pop up adverts, its free to join and use as much or as little as you need or want to. The more you put in to the site the more you get out of it.

How long has the rally been running?
The first members only rally was held in 2010.

How many people go to the rally?
On our first year we got 35 members and we hope to get more every year, with out growing too big that it gets out of hand and control and or needing to be run like every other rally event.

Why do I have to pay to attened a members only rally?
How else am I suppose to become evil overloard of the universe??? I mean that costs money. Seriously though unlike other sites and clubs, Southern Rider is free to join has no yearly subs and we have a very small operating budget. This budget covers the growing costs of running a webserver so we don't have a lot left over to put on free events for our members, though sometimes we would love to be able to.

The prepay fee spreads the cost of having fun to every one that attends. The entry fee which is no more expensive than any other rally covers your badge, it also covers any amenities we have to hire (ie; Port-l-Loo), loo paper, a few small prizes, the coffee, tea, sugar and milk etc. Since we won't be getting the large numbers like rallies open to every one we simply do make enough from the Escapade to cover the rally as well.

This rally is not designed to make money for they site, but we don't want it to run at a loss either as stated above we have a very small operating budget and the owners of the site are still putting up a good chunk of their own money for the site. The annual Escapade is designed to cover the running costs of the website..

How much does the Rally cost to attend?
The current cost is $25 per entrant. This $25 includes the badge. The members only rally is prepay only, and no entrants will be accepted on the day no if no buts.

What happens to the remainder of the money you have raised?
The rally is not designed to make any money for the site, this is what the Escapade is for, but we don't want to run it at a loss either, the slush fund is simply not big enough for that. Usually after the rally we have to top up from the slush fund to make ends meet. However as with the Escapade if there is any money left over it all goes in to the Southern Rider slush fund. This slush fund is used to pay for the running of the site, hosting, & domain name, and server upgrades and maintenance.

The money is also used to buy the site various equipment, from site flag, that is used at various events like rallies, and bike shows etc, to tools and equipment for members to use example paddock stands, and bike hoists, trailer ramps, as well as buying site merchandise stock and the like to have on hand when some one wants to buy. T-Shirts, Can Coolers, Vinyl Transfers etc.

This is not a huge slush fund either and for many events we do rely on donations to get us through. At the time of writing this FAQ's we only have a few $100 in reserve. Rememebr this also has to cover any unexpected maintenance or upgrades on the server or any other unseen bill for Southern Rider. It will also start to buy the next round of supplies for the rally.

This slush fund has also been known to be used to help members out in the time of need (depending on how much is in it at the time of course.) We helped pay for members fuel to get to and from the ACC Protest run in 2009, and use it with little offers like this..

Once all this is bought and paid for and done any leftovers is in a savings account and once we have enough we will make a public donation to a choosen charity. However we are like any other website, club, organisation or business we have to pay our bills first.
